B

Bauxite

Bauxite is a sedimentary rock with high aluminum content and is the world's main source of aluminum. Epoplex commonly uses this aggregate to top-dress high-friction surfacing binders.

Bike Lanes

Lanes designated for bicyclists that are typically marked with a bright green color to alert motorists and promote safety.

Bright Road Lines

Bright white and yellow road lines increase road safety helping motorists to see the road in poor conditions and avoid oncoming traffic and other hazards. Certain chemistries can be credited with brighter road lines. All of Epoplex's polymer markings promote excellent retroreflectivity.

Bus Lanes

Lanes specifically for buses, commonly marked red to gain drivers' attention and raise awareness of pedestrians.

C

Centerline

The Centerline, a 4-inch-wide solid or skip line, marks the center of the road and is used to note that the adjacent lane to the left carries traffic in the opposite direction. These are traditionally yellow in the United States. Any Epoplex line-striping system can be used for the Centerline.

D

Dashed Lines

Dashed lines are used to indicate a lane ending up ahead or a change of use. Exit lanes are marked with dashed lines. A transition to a car pool lane will also utilize dashed lines. Any Epoplex line-striping system can be used for dashed lines.

Durable Markings

Highway safety markings and specialty markings must be durable to withstand extreme conditions, including snow plows. Street, highway, and crosswalk markings and symbols need to maintain their reflectivity. Epoxy and polyurea line striping offers a long-lasting and durable solution no matter what the environment requires. Any Epoplex line striping system can fit your requirements for durable markings.

E

Edge Line

The edge line of a road may be a 4-inch line or a 6-inch line and it denotes the outside edge of roads and highways. Any Epoplex line striping system can be used for edge lines.

Epoxy Line Striping

Line striping (also known as road striping or highway striping) systems may be made of epoxy chemistries that are fast or slow curing. Epoxy provides durability, UV stability, abrasion resistance, and retains color and reflectivity. Epoplex has several epoxy line striping systems available.

Epoxy Overlay

Epoxy overlay is an epoxy combined with aggregate for a hard surface (also known as overlay aggregate). Epoxy overlay systems protect the road from salt and other environmental factors, giving the road a longer life than it would have otherwise. An epoxy overlay can also add grip to the road by increasing the friction and thus reducing accidents. Epoplex Safe-T-Grip products provide excellent performance.

H

High Friction Surface Treatment

High Friction Surface Treatment, also known as HFST, is used to create or restore high pavement friction in places deemed to have the potential to be "high crash" areas. High friction surface treatment can also help with wet-driving control, aiding in crash reduction. Epoplex's Safe-T-Grip system is a perfect solution.

Highway Paint

Road paint, or highway paint, is a type of paint made for paved surfaces. There are multiple types of paint chemistries. Some chemistries perform better in certain areas -- examples are parking lot paint, temporary paint, or paint for areas with lighter traffic. For the high-traffic conditions of busy roadways and highways, epoxy or polyurea offers proven durable highway safety solutions. Any line striping system from Epoplex can serve high-traffic conditions.

L

Lines Recognized by Self-Driving Cars

With the advent of autonomous vehicles and driver-assist systems making their way onto the roads, long-lasting lane markings are more important than ever. When paint fades or disappears on the road, an autonomous car may struggle to find the road. While auto manufacturers are investing in sophisticated sensors to handle such circumstances, governments investing in infrastructure must take the self-driving car into consideration when it comes to pavement markings. Epoplex line striping systems will provide the lasting performance you need.

P

Pavement Marker Adhesive

Road or pavement marker adhesives (or marker glues) are designed to adhere to raised pavement markers (RPMs), bonding them to the road's surface. This advhesive must be extremely durable as it must last for the life of the RPM under extreme conditions. Epoplex offers a pavement marker adhesive that is ultra-durable as well as chemical and abrasion resistant.

Plural Component

Plural component coatings and paints have a unique chemistry (epoxy and polyurea) that have properties that make them more durable, working in environments where traditional paint alone would fail. Epoplex offers both epoxy and polyurea line striping systems.

Polymer Binder

Polymer binders are used to chemically form materials into a cohesive whole. Reliable solutions like Epoplex Safe-T-Grip uses polymer binders to harden and bond substances to one another.

Polyurea Line Striping

Polyurea is a fast-curing elastomer used to stand up to extreme conditions. In addition to a fast-set time, polyurea-based line striping systems offer superior abrasion resistance and durability as well as excellent UV stability. Epoplex's LS90 system will provide all of these performance benefits.

Q

Quick Setting Line Striping

Quick setting line striping is a hybridized epoxy formulation designed with the objective of fast-cure times. This allows for a reduction in work times and the time spent on the road by workers. Ask about Epoplex's LS65qs product.

R

Raised Pavement Markers

Raised Pavement Markers (RPMs) are safety devices that are used on roads. Often they include reflective lenses or sheeting to enhance visibility and may simply be referred to as reflectors. Epoplex's pavement marker adhesive will keep your RPMs securely affixed to the road.

Road Surface Marking

Any material used on paved roads to convey information to motorists is considered a road surface marking. The information provided by these markings are important to create order and desired behavior on the road or in parking areas. This minimizes chaos and confusion that can lead to damage, injury, and even death. It is important to consider the technology of the road surface markings you choose to ensure they will retain color, brightness, reflectivity, and texture under the strain of traffic and weather. Epoplex line striping products have the proven technology to ensure long-lasting performance.

Roadway Departure

A roadway departure (RwD) crash is defined as a crash which occurs after a vehicle crosses an edge line or a center line, or otherwise leaves the traveled way. There are highway safety solutions that can reduce roadway departures, such as high quality line striping and HFST treatments to aid with wet conditions. Epoplex has multiple solutions to assist in preventing roadway departure crashes.

S

Snow-Plowable Markers

Snow-Plowable Markers are raised pavement markers (RPMs) that provide visibility at night and in rain but also withstand snow plows and traffic. Epoplex marker adhesive will ensure your road safety devices remain on the road.

Stop Bars

Stop bars, also called stop lines, are solid white lines that extend across all lanes, indicating where traffic should stop. These are used as visual cues to stop or yield and give guidance at an intersection. Stop bars can prevent accidents. These lines often require upkeep as they have a tendency to fade. With Epoplex line striping systems, your stop bars will be long lasting.

T

Traffic Lines

White and yellow pavement markings (or traffic lines) convey information to roadway users indicating conditions, what part of the road to use, and when passing is permitted. Epoplex has multiple systems available in white or yellow to suit your traffic line needs.

Traffic Stripes

Traffic stripes, or pavement marking materials, are critical factors in motorist safety, as they delineate traffic giving proper order to roadways. Contact your local Epoplex representative to learn which line striping system is best for your environment.

U

UV-Stable Markings

UV-Stable Road Markings are designed to stand up to weather, traffic, and sunlight. The material used will determine the longevity of the marking and its color. It is important for road safety that the markings do not break down or fade as a result of UV degradation. The best materials will produce UV-stable markings. All Epoplex line striping products are UV stable.

W

Wet Recovery Lines

Wet Recovery Lines maintain their reflectivity in the rain by quickly regaining their reflectivity after coming in contact with rain.

Wet Reflective Lines

Wet Reflective Lines are pavement markings that use wet-reflective technology to be seen at night and in the rain. All Epoplex line striping systems can employ wet-reflective technology.
